Why us

The big installers said no to Mercedes-Benz. We found a way.

Remote Start North East started with my own Mercedes. I wanted remote start, so I emailed every big remote start company in the UK, again and again. The answer was always the same.

It's 2026, and I didn't believe it couldn't be done. So I took matters into my own hands, found a way to fit it properly and fitted it to my own car first. It works brilliantly.

  • Like the big UK companies, we use high-quality kits shipped from the USA. The difference is that we fit them to Mercedes-Benz.
  • We only use high-quality products, the best we could find on the market.
  • When I arrive, I'll show you it working on my own Mercedes before I start on yours.
“We do not install on Mercedes-Benz.”
The reply from every big UK remote start company I contacted

We do.And you'll see it working on my own car before I touch yours.

See it work

Start it from the kitchen. Or from the office.

Pick winter or summer and how you'd start it, then press the buttons. In winter the car clears its windows and warms up. In summer it cools down before you get in. Either way, it's at your favourite temperature while you're still indoors.

A frosty morning. You're in the kitchen and your car is on the drive outside. When it starts, its lights come on, the windows clear and the cabin warms up. Outside −3°C Cabin 4°C You

  2. 2

    Send a booking request

Use the form below to send us your reg, model and the package you want, and tell us if you have a spare key. Add your VIN if you have it. It's on your V5C logbook. You don't pay anything at this stage.

  3. 3

We confirm and order for you

We check your VIN against the kit list and confirm the price. You pay us the parts price and we do the rest: we order your kit in your name from our supplier in the USA and handle its delivery and import. Then we agree a Saturday or Sunday.

  4. 4

    Fit and handover

We come to you on a dry day and show you it working on our own Mercedes first. Then we fit yours, test it with you and show you how to start it, stop it and set the options. You pay for the fitting when it's done.

Which Mercedes we can fit

Our kits come from the USA and are listed by North American model year, so we've matched every one to UK registration dates and marked UK-only versions, such as estates and most diesels, for a check before booking.

ModelVersionUK registrationsCan we fit it?

UK dates are when cars were first registered and are approximate around model changes. We confirm every car from its VIN before we take a booking.

Before you book

Good to know

You'll need a spare key

The kits for 2016-on cars and vans only work with a working spare Mercedes key, which we fit out of sight in the car. Without one, we can't fit remote start. Your other key stays with you as normal. No spare yet? Get one from a Mercedes-Benz dealer before your fitting day. The checker above tells you if your car needs one.

Weekends, on a dry day

We fit on Saturdays and Sundays only. We work on the car outdoors at your home, so we need a dry day: rain can get into the car's electronics while they're open. If rain is forecast, we'll move your fitting to the next dry Saturday or Sunday.

We come to you

Travel is free within 100 miles of Newcastle upon Tyne.

Automatic gearbox only

Remote start isn't possible on a manual car. If your car has a clutch pedal, we can't fit it.

Hybrids

Our kits don't support plug-in hybrids. The kit for the A-Class, CLA, GLA, GLB and GLE doesn't support 48V mild hybrids either. The checker tells you what applies to your car.

Tell your insurer

Remote start counts as a modification. Let your insurer know before it's fitted.

Use it on your drive

The Highway Code says you must not leave a parked car unattended with the engine running on a public road (rule 123). Use remote start on your drive or private land.

Smart Control plan

The SmartStart app needs an active plan, paid yearly. Your key still starts the car without it.

Booking terms

Please read these before you send your booking. Your booking is with Shota Baduashvili, trading as Remote Start North East.

  1. Your car. We confirm it from your VIN before you pay anything. Remote start needs an automatic gearbox, and the kits for 2016-on cars and vans need a working spare key, which stays in the car.
  2. Fitting. On Saturdays and Sundays only, on a dry day, at your home with space to work around the car. If rain is forecast, we'll move your fitting to the next dry Saturday or Sunday at no charge. If we arrive and can't fit your kit because of something on your side, such as no working spare key, the car not being there or no one at home, there's a £100 charge for the wasted trip and we'll rebook you.
  3. We buy the parts for you, in your name. Once we've confirmed your car, you pay us the parts price and we do everything else: we order your kit in your name from our supplier in the USA, and pay for its delivery and the UK import VAT. We pass your money straight on, add nothing to it for ourselves and send you the supplier's receipt. Because the kit is bought in your name from the supplier, we can't refund it: any return or refund is between you and the supplier, under their returns policy.
  4. Paying us. Apart from the parts money we pass on, you only pay us for the fitting, and any call-out charge, when the job's done. Choosing and ordering the right kit is included.
  5. The law. In the UK you must not leave a parked car unattended with its engine running, or leave the engine running unnecessarily, on a public road (Highway Code rule 123). Only use remote start on your own drive or other private land. Using it legally and safely is your responsibility.
  6. Insurance and warranty. Tell your insurer before it's fitted, as it counts as a modification. Fitting an accessory doesn't automatically void a manufacturer warranty, but a fault caused by an aftermarket part isn't covered by it.

How we use your details is set out in our privacy notice.

Questions

Common questions

Do you fit remote start to other makes?

No. We only fit Mercedes-Benz cars and vans. The kits we fit are made for Mercedes-Benz, so we don't offer remote start for any other make.

How far away can I start it?

With Smart Control, from anywhere in the world. Your phone sends the command over the internet, and the SmartStart module in your car receives it over its own mobile connection. So it works as long as your phone is online (mobile data or Wi-Fi), the car has mobile signal where it's parked and your app plan is active. Underground car parks and areas with no signal can stop it working.

With Key Start, you use your own key, so it works from as far away as your key can lock the car: about 60 m in the open.

Do I really need a spare key?

For 2016-on cars and vans, yes. The kit uses a working spare key, fitted out of sight in the car, to start the engine, and it won't work without one. Your other key stays with you. Older models use a different kit that fits behind the ignition switch and doesn't need one. The checker tells you which applies to your car.

When can you fit it?

On Saturdays and Sundays. We work on the car outdoors at your home, so we need a dry day: rain can get into the car's electronics while they're open. If rain is forecast, we'll move your fitting to the next dry Saturday or Sunday.

How do I pay?

In two parts. Once we've confirmed your car from its VIN, you pay us the parts price, which covers the kit, its delivery and the UK import VAT. We order the kit for you, in your name, handle everything until it arrives and send you the supplier's receipt. We add nothing to it for ourselves. Then you pay us for the fitting, and any call-out charge, when the job's done.

Can I get a refund on the parts?

Not from us, because we don't sell them. We order your kit for you, in your name, from the supplier, so any return or refund is between you and them, under their returns policy. Please only go ahead once you're sure.

Do you come outside the North East?

Yes. Travel is free within 100 miles of Newcastle upon Tyne.

Can I still drive and start the car normally?

Yes. Your key and start button work exactly as before. After a remote start, get in with your key, press the brake and press the start button to take over and drive.

Why do you need my VIN?

There's a kit for each model and model year. Your VIN tells us exactly when and how your car was built, so we can tell you the right kit to order. It's in box E on your V5C logbook and at the bottom of the windscreen.

My car's from a year that isn't listed. Is there any chance?

Send us your reg anyway. New models are added over time, and some UK cars match a listed North American version even when the dates look different.

Will it affect my warranty?

Fitting an accessory doesn't automatically void a manufacturer warranty, but a fault caused by an aftermarket part isn't covered by it. If your car is still under warranty, mention it when you book and we'll talk it through.

Why don't you fit some 2014 to 2019 models?

For those models, the kit needs the car's ignition unit (the EIS) opened and soldered. We only fit kits that plug into the car's own wiring, so we don't offer it.

How we use your details, in plain English.

Who we are

Remote Start North East is the trading name of Shota Baduashvili, a self-employed installer in Newcastle upon Tyne. We're responsible for the personal details you give us. If you have a question about them, email or call .

What we collect
  • When you check your car: the number plate you type in. We look it up in official vehicle records, through our data provider RegCheck or the DVSA, to show your car's details. We don't link it to you, and we keep the answer for up to a week so the same plate doesn't need looking up again.
  • When you book or get in touch: your name, phone number, email address, town or postcode, your car's details (number plate, model and VIN) and anything else you tell us. For your fitting, we'll also need your address.
  • When you pay: the details that come with your payment, such as your name and the amount. For card payments we only see limited card details, such as the last four digits. We never see your full card number.
Why we use it
  • To answer your questions, check your car and give you a price, because you've asked us to.
  • To order your kit in your name, fit it and help you afterwards, as part of our agreement with you.
  • To keep accounts and tax records, because the law requires it.
  • To deal with any complaint or claim, which is in our legitimate interests.

We won't send you marketing unless you ask us to, and we never sell your details.

Who we share it with
  • Our parts supplier in the USA gets your name, your car's details and the contact and delivery details needed to sell you your kit in your name and deliver it. Their courier gets the delivery details from them. Your details have to go to the USA for us to buy the kit you've asked for.
  • RegCheck or the DVSA get the number plates typed into our checker, and nothing else.
  • Directed, the maker of SmartStart, if you choose Smart Control. Your app account and plan are in your name, under Directed's own privacy policy.
  • The companies that run our services: Google for our email, Cloudflare for this website, our booking form and our email forwarding, and our bank or card payment provider when you pay.
  • HMRC or others, but only if the law requires it.
Cookies and this website

We don't use cookies to track you or to show you adverts. This website loads its fonts from Google Fonts, so your browser shares your IP address with Google when the page loads. Cloudflare, which runs the site, may set a strictly necessary security cookie and keeps short-term records, such as IP addresses, to protect it.

How long we keep it
  • Enquiries that don't lead to a fitting: up to 12 months.
  • Customer and payment records: 6 years from the end of the tax year of your fitting, for our tax records and in case of a claim.
  • Number plate look-ups: up to a week, and not linked to you.

After that, we delete them.

Your rights

You can ask for a copy of the details we hold about you, ask us to correct or delete them, or object to how we use them. Email us and we'll reply within a month. Some details, such as tax records, we have to keep by law.

If you're unhappy with how we've handled your details, please tell us first. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint or on 0303 123 1113.
